CCSO identifies shooter, victim from Friday shooting in Hampton

Officials with the Carter County Sheriff’s Office released the name of the victim involved in a deadly shooting that took place in Hampton Friday evening.

According to a statement issued by the department, Alan Lyle Jansma, 43, of Hampton, was killed in the parking lot of the McDonald’s in Hampton near Highway 19E.

Saturday afternoon, the department officially charged 64-year-old Steve Mack Miller with second-degree murder for shooting Jansma. According to court documents, a dispute between the gentlemen ensued when Jansma reportedly discovered Miller with his girlfriend. Miller would then fire two shots on Jansma before reportedly surrendering to officers.

Miller is currently being held in the Carter County Detention Center on a $400,000 bond and is expected in court on Sept. 24.
