Carter County Sheriff Dexter Lunceford verified Monday that Chief Deputy James Parrish turned in his resignation Friday.
The resignation, however, will not be effective until September 27, but Parrish will not be working with the Carter County Sheriff’s Department during that time.
According to Lunceford, Parrish resigned to take a position with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Lunceford appointed Parrish to the chief deputy position in 2014, and it was Parrish’s second stint in the position after serving the same role under past Sheriff John Henson.
