Jones, McClain at top of scoring sheet in recent games Johnson hits career scoring in UVA-Wise win

Two former Hampton Bulldogs are seeing quite a bit of starting time over at Johnson University.

Former ‘Dog standouts Coby Jones and Cody McClain are frequent starters for the Royals.

Most recently, Jones and McClain took to the floor as the Royals took on Sewanee in Knoxville last Friday.

The Royals took a 103-71 loss in the game. Jones, however, led the way with 14 points while McClain followed with 11.

On Tuesday, Dec. 4, McClain racked up 20 points during the Royals 99-75 win over Berea in Knoxville. McClain was the second highest scorer behind Taylor Gilpin who had 22 points in the contest.

One of Jones’ biggest performances came on Nov. 9, when Johnson University fell to Grace Christian University 92-84. In that game, Jones totaled 33 points as he went 7-of-17 from 3-point range.

Jones, McClain and the Royals will be back on the hardwood Dec. 15 at the University of the Cumberlands.

Johnson records career scoring in recent UVA-Wise win

Last Wednesday, the UVA-Wise women basketball team picked up win No. 4 on the season as they topped Wesleyan 59-58.

Leading the way for Cavaliers was former Happy Valley star, Kalee Johnson.

Johnson recorded a career- and game-high 14 points in the contest.

The Cavaliers are now  4-5 overall after a loss to Glenville State College on Dec. 8.

Johnson and UVA-Wise will be back in action on Dec. 19 as they travel to Bluefield State College.

Marosites more than halfway to 1,000 career points

Former Elizabethton Lady Cyclones standout Kayla Marosites is nine games into her second season with the Carson Newman  Eagles.

At this point in her career at Carson Newman, Marosites, a junior, has 560 points after scoring 423 points during the 2017-18 season. She currently has 137 points this season as the Eagles hold a 6-3 record.

While being a major offensive contributor, Marosites always plays a big part on the boards. She currently has 467 career rebound with 206 of those coming on the offensive side of the ball. Marosites has also racked up 103 career steals to go along with 99 career assists.

Kayla’s sister, Kelcis, also dresses up for Carson Newman and has 290 career points.

Carson Newman is currently on a two-game skid and will be back in action today at King University.
