A fiery accident on Sycamore Shoals Drive in Elizabethton led to one woman going to jail.
On Wednesday, Jan. 9, Carter County Sheriff Deputies Dakota Mullins and Johnathan Blevins responded to a vehicle accident near 742 Sycamore Shoals Drive.
On arrival, Mullins said he observed a vehicle on its side and on fire. The Watauga Volunteer Fire Department also responded and were successful in putting out the flames.
Once on scene, Mullins said he approached Gabrielle Tomlinson, 27, of 420 Willow Springs Road in Elizabethton, and Gregory Robertson.
After bringing Tomlinson and Robertson to a safe distance from the car, Mullins questioned Tomlinson and noticed that she allegedly had slurred speech. Mullins said he also noticed the smell of alcohol. According to Mullins, Tomlinson admitted to having been drinking. Tomlinson then allegedly told Mullins that her friend “Olivia” had been driving. The officer searched for another female at the scene but did not find anyone.
Mullins then asked Tomlinson to have a seat in front of Blevins’ vehicle, and that is when Tomlinson allegedly became uncooperative and aggressive. After giving verbal commands to calm down, Mullins took Tomlinson to the ground and handcuffed her. While Mullins tried to put Tomlinson in his vehicle, she allegedly started kicking Mullins before he took her back to the ground to keep her from kicking.
Tomlinson is being charged with DUI and resisting arrest.
