Hampton downs Hunter for Area 1 Championship

After a tight first quarter, the Hampton Elementary Jr. Bulldogs pulled away in the second frame en route to a 50-36 win.
The win earned them the Area 1-A Championship title Tuesday night inside Hampton Elementary.
The Jr. Bulldogs had three players hit double-digits with Cadon Buckles putting up 14 points while John Greenwell led the way 15. Hampton’s Austin Bentley added ten points to the Jr. ‘Dogs’ cause.
After holding a small 6-5 lead coming out of the first frame, Hampton rallied to outscore Hunter 17-4 in the second quarter to take a 23-9 edge into halftime.
The third frame saw Hunter pick up some momentum as the Tigers posted 11 points to Hampton’s nine. The Jr. Bulldogs took a 32-20 lead into the fourth frame.
Hampton narrowly out worked Hunter in the fourth quarter, 18-16.
For Hunter, Joez Blamo led with 15 points while teammate Landon Ramsey posted 14. Ryan Sexton and Jonathan Campbell each had five. Hunter’s Marcus Shoemaker finished with two.
For Hampton, Hayden Campbell (4), Dylan Trivett (3), Ty McElyea (2) and Brody Hicks (2) all got on the board.
