Elizabethton City Schools announced yesterday evening they will close for the remainder of this week due to the prevalence of illness among the student and teacher population this week.
Superintendent Corey Gardenhour said they had seen a significant rise in illness over the course of this week
“We felt it was best to not have school Thursday and Friday,” Gardenhour said. “The hope is to have our custodial staff remain during those days so we can resanatize everything.”
While schools are closed for today and Friday, he said Elizabethton City Schools currently plans to resume school hours Monday morning.
“We hope children who are ill will take this time to recover, and we hope families know we are thinking of them as they deal with their illnesses,” he said.
