Summer Concert Series: Mountain Rose — 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. — Join these local talents for a bluegrass/folk-rock experience like no other!  Experience the music and energy of Roan Mountain at the Park Amphitheater.

Concerts will be relocated to Picnic Shelter 3 in the Campground in case of bad weather. Free admission! Donations accepted. Meet at the Park Amphitheater.

Saturday, June 1

Summer Concert Series: Carson Peters and Iron Mountain — 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. — Playing since the age of 3, Carson Peters is a young musical prodigy who never ceases to amaze… talk about BIG talent in a small package. This famous child fiddler has performed at the Grand Ole Opry, played onstage with Ricky Skaggs, and been a guest on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Come get his autograph at the Park Amphitheater.

Concerts will be relocated to Picnic Shelter 3 in the Campground in case of bad weather. Free admission. Donations accepted. Meet at the Park Amphitheater.

Friday, June 7

Summer Concert Series: Thistle Dew — 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. — This Roan Mountain group plays a unique blend of traditional Appalachian and Celtic music which they have dubbed “CELTA-LACHIAN.” This performance is sure to add some local flavor to your visit!

Saturday, June 8

Summer Concert Series: Marshall Ballew — 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. — This solo artist from Piney Flats is a true talent. Marshall never fails to wow audiences with his eclectic mix of blues, soul, folk, old-time, rock and more… both originals and covers.

Friday, June 14

Summer Conert Series: Art Lang and Friends — 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. — Traditional old-time music played by Art Lang on fiddle, banjo, and guitar will provide the soundtrack for your mountain memories.

Summer Concert Series: — Ashley and Christian — 7:30 – 8:30 p.m. — Ashley and Christian will provide the perfect musical accompaniment to your summertime fun in the park. Enjoy a performance of originals and covers by this talented young duo at the Park Amphitheater. Concerts will be relocated to Picnic Shelter 3 in the Campground in case of bad weather. Free admission! Donations accepted. Meet at the Park Amphitheater.

Saturday Sunday, June 22-23

2019 Rhododendron Festival — 10 a.m. – 5 p.m — Since 1947, the community of Roan Mountain has celebrated each June to herald in the blooming of the famous Catawba Rhododendron along the highlands of the Roan. Join us at Roan Mountain State Park for a true mountain celebration. Aside from the natural beauty of the blooming Rhododendron, people from all over the world come to enjoy the flavors of local cuisine, browse local crafts and arts, and take in the music of the region. 

The Festival will be held around the Roan Mountain State Park amphitheater and pool. Parking is by donation to local civic groups in the park fields along-side Hwy. 143. Friday, June 28

Summer Concert Series: Roan Mountain Moonshiners — These local favorites from right here in Roan Mountain always provide a toe-tappin’ good time with their old-time music and rousing fiddle tunes. 7:30-8:30 p.m. at the Park Amphitheater.

Independence Day Celebration — Join Roan Mountain State Park for a 4th of July Weekend celebration! Starting at 9:30 a.m., the park will be hosting a line-up of fun activities for kids and adults alike. Our Field Game line-up will be announced closer to the event date, but expect the following:

Corn Hole Tournament

Various Relay Races

Monday, July 8-12

2019 Junior Ranger Camp — Daily Times TBD — Roan Mountain State Park is proud to host our 2019 Junior Ranger Camp for youth ages 8-12. Junior Rangers will participate in outdoor activities and classes while learning the many duties of a park ranger: wilderness medicine and survival, law enforcement, plant and animal identification, and outdoorsmanship. At the end of their week, 30 Junior Rangers will graduate with their very own Junior Ranger Badge.

This year’s classes will be held the week of June 8-12 (Monday – Friday). A graduation ceremony and dinner will be held on Friday. Due to over-whelming demand, registration was held in-person only on Saturday, May 4, at the Park Headquarters starting at 4 p.m. Registration may only be done for family-members of the person registering them. Lastly, Junior Ranger who have completed two years at Roan Mountain State Park will not be eligible for registration (though many other TN State Parks offer excellent Junior Ranger Camps). Junior Rangers, get ready for an exciting year! Registration at Park Headquarters.

Friday, July 26, – Saturday, July 27

Xtreme Roan Adventures Youth Rally — 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. — The Friends of Roan Mountain will be hosting an adventurous weekend for youth ages 4+. On July 26 and 27, Junior Naturalists will take part in outdoor nature classes, hikes, and adventures. Friday night classes will begin at 6 p.m. and Saturday events will take place from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. For event details and registration information, keep an eye on the Friends of Roan Mountain Website at  http://www.friendsofroanmtn.org/. Lunch will be provided on Saturday for registered individuals. Meet at the Park Amphitheater.

Friday, Aug. 30 – September 1

2019 Fall Naturalists’ Rally – Celebrating their 57th Fall Naturalists Rally, the Friends of Roan Mountain will be offering a weekend full of outdoor classes on varying subjects. Take part in hikes, biotic surveys, naturalist lectures, and outdoor adventures that the whole family can enjoy. This event will take place within Roan Mountain State Park on the weekend of August 30 – September 1. Meet at RMSP Conference Center.

Saturday, Oct. 5

Fall Chili Cook-Off – 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. — Cook up a pot of your secret recipe and compete for prizes, or just come sample the chefs’ creations! Everyone is welcome to kick-off the fall season with food, fun, and fellowship. Register prior to October 5 at the Park Headquarters or Campground Check-in Station. 8:00 a.m.-noon. Prizes will be awarded to the judges favorite chili, public favorite chili, best decorated chili booth, and overall best use of heat to flavor ratio (no burning off taste-buds!). Meet at: Picnic Shelter #3 in Campground.

Saturday, Oct. 12

2019 Autumn Harvest Festival – Noon – 3 p.m. — Step back in time with us on Saturday, October 12th at the Miller Farmstead from noon-3 p.m. Our Autumn Harvest Festival brings guests back into the mid 1800s with historical tours of the Farm, house, and land surrounding the area. The farmstead will be packed with historical demonstrations, games, traditional music, food, crafts, and more! Come out and support these local artists and re-enactors, or join in the fun by calling us to sign up as a vendor or re-enactor today.

In case of bad weather, the festival will be moved to the Visitor’s Center. If the festival will be moved, we will post it on our park Facebook page and have a sign re-directing guests from the Farmstead entrance. Meet at: Miller Farmstead.

Saturday, Nov. 2

Roan Mountain 10K Road Race – 11 a.m – Compete with runners from across the state as part of the Tennessee State Parks Running Tour. This certified 6.2 mile course is an all road (no trail!) race starting at 11 a.m. at Picnic Shelter 3. Saturday, Nov. 9

Old Time Yule Celebration – 1-3 p.m – Celebrate Christmas with Roan Mountain State Park from 1-3 p.m. at the historic Miller Farmstead. This 1800s Christmas celebration will feature old-time traditional Christmas music, cookies and refreshments, a campfire, tours of the historic farmstead, and an old-timey letter writing station to Santa.

In case of bad weather, this event may be moved to the Conference Center. If the event will be moved, notice will be given on our Facebook Page and a sign redirecting traffic from the Farmstead entrance will be posted. Meet at: Miller Farmstead.
