According to a report released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, an Elizabethton man remains hospitalized and faces felony charges after ramming his car into the back of another car on Highway 91 Wednesday night. The victim was also hospitalized for injuries and taken to a local hospital.
Michael Lynn Richardson, 35, was traveling north on Highway 91 in a 1995 Ford F150 around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday when in an apparent unprovoked road rage incident he began ramming the back of a 2016 Ford Fusion being driven by the victim that was also driving in the same direction.
The victim pulled into a local convenience store for safety, while Richardson continued on Highway 91.
Troopers report, “[Richardson] failed to maintain proper lane, left roadway right striking trees. The vehicle overturned and rolled to rest on its top in the 1700 block of Highway 91.”
Richardson’s vehicle became engulfed in flames.
The report details that “Good Samaritans engaged in life-saving efforts to extinguish/reduce fire until emergency crews arrived.”
Richardson was taken to the Johnson City Medical Center for his injuries. There has been no update as to his condition or the victims as of press time.
Felony charges are pending against Richardson once he is released from the hospital.
