Veterans Day programs planned Monday at schools, War Memorial

A Veterans Day program will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Veterans War Memorial in downtown Elizabethton. Also, Jason Hartley of Keenburg Elementary School, reports that a special Veterans Day program will be held at the school from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday to honor local Keenburg veterans. The Carter County Veterans Council will be hosting a Veterans Day Program Monday at 2 p.m. at Unaka High School. The program will include the Missing Man Table Ceremony and a Flag Folding Ceremony. The guest speaker for this year’s program is CW4 Randy Lingerfelt, U.S. Army Retired. Also, Unaka High School students will lead the National Anthem and Pledge of Allegiance and the Unaka High School band will perform an Armed Forces Medley. “This program is a way to honor all those who have served our country in the military. I encourage all veterans and members of our community to come together to recognize those who have served,” said David Batchelder, Carter County Veterans Service Officer.
