Cyclone grapplers square off with Jeff County, Science Hill

JOHNSON CITY – The Elizabethton wrestling team was back on the mats Tuesday at Science Hill High School as the Cyclones participated in a couple of dual matches with the Jeff County Patriots and the host Science Hill Hilltoppers.
 
In their match against Jeff County, the Cyclones fell short 60-21.
 
Deuce Morton (8-1) continued his early-season form in the 220 weight class with a 4-3 decision over the Patriots Ryver Shelton. Joseph Kechter followed with a pinfall over Jacob Skelton at 285.
 
The Patriots Dylan Gray picked up a forfeit in the 106 class while the Cyclone’s Holden Roaten was awarded a forfeit win at 113.
In the 120 match, Roger Watkins of Jeff Co. took a pinfall win over Isiah King of Elizabethton. The Patriots also followed with straight forfeit wins in 126 and 132 as Guillermo Rodriquez and Nolan Bissell were awarded the victories respectively.
Landon Fisher pinned Andrew Fontanez of Elizabethton at 138 while Cory Lawson of the Cyclones fell by pin to Lane Weatherford of Jeff Co.
The Patriots also picked up pinfalls at 152 and 160 as Logan Fisher and Levi Shrader took wins over Nathaniel Shepherd and Bryson Davis of Elizabethton.
Alex Conley broke the run with a forfeit win at 170 for the Cyclones as Jeff Co. closed out the match at 182 with James Robinson taking a pinfall over the Cyclones Caleb Miller and Hunter Bryant picking up a forfeit at 195.
Against Science Hill, the Cyclones didn’t fare any better as the host Hilltoppers took the match 66-18.
Science Hill took the first two weight classes as Nolan Blevins (106) won by forfeit and Hayden Bodo took a pin over Elizabethton’s Holden Roaten at 113.
Elizabethton picked up a win at 120 as Isiah King picked up the forfeit win.
The ‘Toppers then rolled off nine straight wins as Jayvelle Gillespie (126), Tripp Miller (132), Tyler Seeley (138), Jahkye Aples (145), Joseph Frye (152), Peyton Pridemore (160), Jared Harter (170), Liam Medina (182), and Levis Grunder (195) all collected wins for the ‘Toppers.”
Elizabethton closed out the match taking a pair of forfeit wins as Deuce Morton (220) and Joseph Kechter (285) were awarded wins.
The Cyclones will be hosting the John Clock Classic on Saturday at Elizabethton High School throughout the day with various schools participating.
