EHS grapplers handily defeat Hardin Valley, 53-18

KNOXVILLE – The Elizabethton wrestling team worked its way to a 1-1 appearance in Knoxville at the Gibbs Region Duals on Friday as the Cyclones took care of business with a 53-18 win over Hardin Valley Academy.
With double forfeits at 106 and 120, Elizabethton’s Holden Roaten got the Cyclones off on the right foot with a forfeit win at 113. Jackson Martin got HVA on the board at the 126 weight class with a forfeit win as well
Elizabethton’s Peyton Freeman saw the first action of the night and pinned Zach Passafume at 132. Cyclone Andrew Fontanez followed suit at 138 by pinfall over Aiden Yarborough of Hardin Valley.
The Cyclones took the next two matches as Cory Lawson at 145 took down Grayson Adams by pin and Nathaniel Shepherd won his match over Maddox Stimson with a pin at 152.
Riley McNeil of Hardin Valley was awarded a forfeit win at 160 followed by Elizabethton’s Alex Conley 16-0 victory over Dacon Morelan at 170.
In 182 class, Samuel Fletcher of Elizabethton came away with a pinfall over Connor Ellerbee while Derek Whitaker of Hardin Valley managed to overtake Caleb Miller at 195 with a pin.
Deuce Morton reached double-digit wins in the early season running his record to 10-1 with a pin of Conner Clarke in 220 action. Joseph Kechter closed out the night for Elizabethton as the heavyweight (285) took a pinfall over Tyson Green of Hardin Valley.
Elizabethton hosts the John Clock Memorial Tournament on Saturday at Elizabethton High School.
