Tractor-trailer overturns on Highway 67

An overturned tractor-trailer slowed traffic into Elizabethton from Johnson City on Highway 67 yesterday around 11 a.m. The crash occurred in the curve approaching the intersection of Milligan Highway. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the driver of the tractor-trailer, Terry Swafford, 50, of McKenzie, lost control navigating a curve shifting a load of aluminum coils causing the tractor-trailer to overturn.

Swafford was taken to Johnson City Medical Center for minor injuries and charged for failure to exercise due care.

According to Elizabethton Police Chief Jason Shaw, EPD, EFD, and Carter County Rescue Squad, THP responded to the crash.

Both lanes of Highway 67 East closed for a short time while tow trucks worked to get the truck righted. JCPD diverted east-bound traffic from Johnson City to Milligan Highway while the lanes were closed.

Highway 67 was down to one lane for several hours for cleanup.
