Don’t forget your property taxes… Carter County Trustee’s office continues daily operation

Carter County Trustee Randall Lewis wanted to remind the public that the Trustee’s office is still operating daily and is happy to assist Carter Countians with their property tax payments and any questions that anyone may have.
Although the office is still conducting business, Lewis advised that citizens are encouraged to conduct their business via mail, by telephone, or online if at all possible due to the COVID-19 precautions being taken.
The phone number for the Trustee’s office is 423-542-1811. To reach the office via email, the email address is trustee@cartercountytn.gov for assistance.
Citizens have a couple of options to pay electronically either by going online at www.carter.tennesseetrustee.org or by telephone at 1-877-768-5048. Payments may also be mailed to 801 E. Elk Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
Lewis also wanted to make sure that any citizen owing property taxes for the 2018 tax year must be paid by March 31, 2020.
“If someone owes and doesn’t pay those 2018 property taxes by the deadline, they will be turned over to Chancery Court,” Lewis stated. “Once those taxes go there, there is a significant increase in what the payments will be if it reaches that level.”
Lewis also wanted to remind Carter Countians that for those who qualify for the Tax Relief Program for the 2019 Property Taxes, those tax payments have to be made on or before April 6, 2020, to be eligible.
The Trustee’s office wanted to thank everyone for their patience during this time.
