Leaving it all on the pavement… Fat Tire Criterium concludes Sunday in downtown Elizabethton

Sunday was all it was billed for and more as the 2020 Fat Tire Criterium wrapped up with a number of races in downtown Elizabethton that was full of adrenaline and excitement for the racers and spectators alike.
Reaching speeds of upward of 40 miles per hour on what many said was a fast course, the day was filled with full pack racing, quick breakaways, and a mad dash to the start/stop finish line in hopes of securing the title.
With racers coming in from all over the world, the Criterium was the first for downtown Elizabethton but hopefully not the last as the intensity level was high from the start of the morning race at 8:20 to the final 90-minute Men’s Pro 1/2 event to close out the day.
In junior action, Craig ‘CJ’ Burford from Winston Salem, North Carolina helped to make the top three finishers come from the same location as David Davenport and Nicholas Salazar Garcia made it an all Winston Salem finish.
Team Robson Forensic powered by Milligan College saw Marjie Bemis take the win in the Women 3/4/5 category. Lisa Houser from New Orleans, Louisiana finished second in the event while Ashlee McIntosh from Evansville, Indiana wrapped up the top three finishers.
In Novice (Cat 5), Limestone’s Noah Naseri finished in first place riding for the Tri-Cities Road Club. Charles McDaniel from Cordova, TN collected the second-place spot while Johnson City’s Coleman Churitch racing for the Quillen Road Racing team finished third.
Category 4 saw Ethan Sanchez from Winchester, California take the top spot for Team California followed by Newburgh, Indiana’s Logan Brown.
Tyler Kenyon racing with 901 Racing out of Oakland, TN finished third.
In the Masters 40+/50+/60+ category, Sylvania, Ohio’s Jonathan Card took the top honor racing for Mariner Cycling. Matthew Baxter from Clarksville, TN as part of Mid South Racing took the runner-up position while Mitchell Hopkins with Henderson Custom Homes from Winston Salem wrapped up the top three.
Jonah Killy took the win in Cat 3 as the Silver Spring, Maryland native riding for Kelly Benefit Strategies Elite Cycling staved off the challenge of Houston Lundy from Elizabethtown, Kentucky and Luke Woodard finished third. Woodward hails from Greenville, South Carolina.
Masters 35+/45+ category saw Andrew Crater from Greenville, South Carolina take first place with John DeLong taking second place out of Blacksburg, Virginia.
Mobile, Alabama native Eric Nelson rounded out the top three finishers.
Moving on to the Women Pro 1/2, Debbie Milne from Greenville, South Carolina held off all challengers to take the victory. Alyssa Harris – riding for Team Robson Forensic powered by Milligan College came in second.
Katy Sorrell took the third spot riding out of Columbia, South Carolina.
In the day’s final showdown in the Men’s Pro 1/2, Tanner Ward from Little Rock, Arkansas fended off Caledonia, Michigan cyclist Alexander Tenelshof, and Bloomington, Indiana’s Caleb Langley to take the title.
