For 90 minutes, it seemed that a sense of normalcy had returned to 2020.
Hundreds of children and their families flocked into downtown Elizabethton for the annual Downtown Elizabethton Trick or Treat sponsored by downtown merchants and Main Street.
The lines for socially distancing were soon erased by the many footsteps of smiling and giggling children who made the circular trek all the way from the Carter County Election Commission down one side of Elk Avenue before crossing and moving up the opposite side.
Some might have even done a couple of treks.
Many adults with the children also took time to deck out in costumes as they walked the sidewalks with their young ones in tow.
Some brought their pets along for the event with even a real-life bobcat being cuddled by one of those in attendance.
It was a day for fun, a day to forget, and even just for the day an opportunity to dress up and be a hero or a favorite character and escape the reality of 2020 where COVID has drained the spirit of so many.
The most challenging part came as I sat down to decide between over 1,700 photos of which ones to use to capture some of those 90 minutes of Batman, unicorns, kitty cats, scarecrows, Donald Trump, evil villains, and even angels and demons.
But here are a few of those selected to share some of the fun of the afternoon.
