Keep Carter County Beautiful along with special assistance from organizer and host Kathleen Gibi of KTnRB and a grant from Volkswagen Corporation completed a successful clean-up of the Watauga Lake recently.
Several volunteers braved the cold weather and water to make the event a success.
Benny Lyons, Carter County Solid Waste Director, supported the event by providing two roll-off dumpsters.
There were 15 volunteers who participated in the clean-up with 3,202 pounds of trash and debris removed from the lake and surrounding shores.
KCCB Chairman Ed Jordan thanked everyone for their contributions and participation in the event and wanted to remind the public that littering and illegal dumping along the roads and countryside end up downstream and eventually into the rivers, lakes, and oceans as evidenced by the material removed from the lake during the clean-up.
With this type of behavior, a grave, negative impact will be transferred onto the only environment mankind has.
