Jr. Devils hold off Jr. Warriors on links, girls play to draw

Taking advantage of a beautiful, mild afternoon, the Happy Valley Middle Jr. Warriors traveled to Erwin Elks, a Par 29 course, to enjoy a round of golf against the Unicoi County Jr. Devils.

In boy’s action, Unicoi County came out on top by recording a 195 to the Jr. Warriors 214.

The Jr. Devils Cole Shelton took medalist honors by firing a 45 on the afternoon. Shelton’s teammates Duncan Horton (47), Jackson Ryan (49), and Bryson Garland (54) figured into the four-player overall total to help the Jr. Devils bring the victory home.

Trenton Cornett’s round of 55 didn’t count toward the team’s score on the afternoon.

Happy Valley was led by Tyler Bailey who recorded the day’s low for the Jr. Warriors with a 50. Nick Bailey and Donovan Brower each recorded a round of 54 while Joel Shaffer’s 56 closed out the day for the Jr. Warriors.

Matthew Savage’s 56 was not counted toward the overall total.

In girls’ play, by the time the round had come to an end both the Jr. Lady Warriors and Jr. Lady Devils found themselves at a dead draw of 99.

The Jr. Lady Warriors Cayden Anderson did come out of the fray as the medalist recording a round-low of 46. Anderson’s teammate, Grace Hollifield, carded a 53 to give the Jr. Lady Warriors their 99 total.

Unicoi County’s Norah Ray was three shots off Anderson’s round finishing with a 49. Laney Rogers recorded a 50 to make up the Jr. Lady Devils scoring.

Marlee Cornett’s 54 did not count toward the team score.
