Despite the best efforts of doctors and nurses, 155 Carter County residents have died from coronavirus. They were family, neighbors, people we worship with, grandparents, etc. Each victim is so much more than a number, they were a person with a life and a story.
No infectious disease in a century has exacted as swift and merciless a toll on the United States as COVID-19. With no vaccine at the time and no cure, the pandemic has killed people in every community across Tennessee. The necessary isolation it imposes has robbed the bereaved of proper goodbyes and the comfort of mourning rituals.
Easter Sunday we plan to do a memorial page in honor of the people in our community the disease has taken from us. Some were well-known, and many were unsung. All added their stories, from all walks of life, to the diversity of those who have died from this dreaded disease.
Send a picture and some brief information about the family member or friend you know who lost their battle to COVID. Easter Sunday, we will run those photos along with a brief bit of information — name, age, date of death, community they lived in, their life’s work, etc. Send this information to rozella.hardin@elizabethton.com or robin.johnson@elizabethton.com. Photos and information can be dropped off at the Elizabethton STAR office or mail it to Elizabethton STAR, 300 Sycamore St., Elizabethton, TN 37643.
