FROM STAFF REPORTS
There is an old saying that Rome wasn’t built in a day and that can imply different things including a softball team as Hampton head softball coach Chelsey Weddle can attest.
Weddle’s Lady Bulldogs absorbed another rough day on the diamond against Johnson County as the Lady Longhorns showed no mercy in a 20-0 rout on Hampton’s field.
It was the second game in a row that Hampton has seen an opponent score 20 or more runs and not been able to respond with any offense of their own.
The game was close for the first two innings as Hampton trailed only 2-0 at the end of the second inning. However, the barn door flew wide open in the top of the third inning when the Lady ‘Horns sent 18 runners across the plate to give the ladies from Mountain City all the lead they needed to secure the win.
Hampton managed only four hits in the contest as Madison Setlock was a perfect 2-of-2 on the afternoon. Makayla Maslin and Macy Henry recorded the other two hits for the Lady Bulldogs.
Johnson County collected 22 hits in the contest.
