The Elizabethton High School Swim Team and the school athletic department will serve as hosts for a new Covid-19 Vaccination event “Vaccs by the Tracks” in partnership with Region A.H.E.A.D, Ballad Health, and the Carter County Health Department.
The Region A.H.E.A.D. mobile vaccine coordinators have agreed to bring their mobile vaccine van to the Elizabethton High School parking lot on May 29 from 8 a.m.to 12 noon.
This Covid-19 Vaccination event “Vaccs by the Tracks” (near the Tweetsie Trail) will be one of the first of its kind in the area, and the hope is that it will be the first of many more to come.
Elijah Smith, a rising senior at Elizabethton High School and one of the event organizers, said the goal is simple – to provide vaccines to those who need it in a way that’s convenient as they are out and about on a Saturday morning. “As you know, fewer than 30 percent of Carter County residents have been fully vaccinated. This places us in the bottom third percentile in the state. By incorporating the Elizabethton Athletics Department and swim team, we also hope to encourage more young people to become vaccinated as kids age 12 and up are now eligible.
‘Bottom line, I’d like for the next school year to be as normal as possible. And I’d like to help more people at risk get protection. Hopefully, this will help, said Smith.
