A single-car accident in the 3000 block of Siam Road around 4:15 p.m. blocked traffic in both directions for almost an hour.

The vehicle struck a utility pole at what appears to have been a high rate of speed, causing the pole to snap in both a low and high location. The pole will have to be replaced at a future date.

The driver sustained very minor injuries in the accident and refused medical treatment at the scene.

Members of the Hampton Volunteer Fire Department, Carter County Sheriff’s Department, and Carter County Rescue responded to the scene, as did Tennessee Highway Patrol Officer J.D. Gregory.

While investigating the accident Gregory administered a field sobriety test to the driver. Gregory stated the driver appeared to have a medical condition that contributed to the accident and requested the name of the driver be withheld pending further investigation of the accident, and no charges had been filed as of the filing of this report.
