Veterans Day ceremony announced for Veterans War Memorial

The annual Veterans Day ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Veterans War Memorial and Walk of Honor in downtown Elizabethton.

The ceremony will take place at the Walk of Honor flags, where the oversight committee also provide an update on the project.

Applications for black granite bricks are still being accepted by the group for the Walk of Honor.

Other portions of the program include a patriotic medley by Loretta Bowers; a formal ceremony for changing of the military branch flags; a program by SGT Miles Cook; and a bagpipe patriotic presentation by Jon Shell.

Attendees are invited to a reception hosted by Robert and Betty Barnes at Simply Elegant located at the 500 block of East Elk Avenue.

Veterans Day is a public holiday that is held on the anniversary of the end of World War I to honor U.S. veterans and victims of all wars. The holiday replaced Armistice Day in 1954.
