The Elizabethton Lady Cyclones were looking to keep pace with the Sullivan East Lady Patriots in Upper Lakes Conference play when they traveled to Erwin to square off with the Unicoi County Lady Blue Devils.
After finding themselves in a tussle with the Lady Blue Devils in the first half leading only 39-33, the Lady Cyclones threw a splash of cold water on the Lady Devils in the second half to go on to earn a 20-point win, 72-52.
Junior Lina Lyon had the foot on the gas early as the guard gunned in 13 points in the first half to help ‘Betsy to forge to the front.
Olivia Holly, one of the top three-point shooters in Northeast Tennessee, continued to fill it up from the outside draining three treys in the half and added a deuce to finish with 11 in the opening 16 minutes of play.
There were plenty of other contributions from the Lady Cyclone lineup as Renna Lane added seven points and Marlee Mathena dropped in five. Katie Lee hit 3-of-4 from the free-throw line.
Jacelyn Metcalf led the Lady Devils with 11 in the half, nine from beyond the arc. Faith Bennett bottomed out three treys to finish with nine first-half points.
Elizabethton closed out the contest with a strong fourth quarter offensively while shutting the Unicoi Co. offense down almost completely allowing only six points in the final eight minutes of play.
Lyon led four Lady Cyclones in double-figure scoring by set the nets on fire for a game-high 26 points. Lane recorded a dozen while 11 points each were added by Holly and Mathena. Lee finished with nine points and Maddie Fowler buried a trey from beyond the arc to finish with three.
Bennett led the Lady Devils with a team-high 15 points on the night with Allie Lingerfelt dropping 14 points and Metcalf 11 points.
