Investigators have charged a man with attempted murder and aggravated burglary after a shooting incident that sent the suspect and a homeowner to the hospital on Tuesday night.
Reggie Allen Putman, 48, is currently receiving treatment at a hospital for injuries he sustained in the shooting, and he is in stable condition, according to investigators with the Carter County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to a house on Cove Creek Road in Roan Mountain at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday due to reports of shots being fired. When they arrived, deputies found Putman and the homeowner, Donald Richard Singleton, with life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Singleton also has received medical treatment and was in stable condition on Wednesday, deputies said.
Investigators believe Putman broke into the residence and was caught by the returning homeowner. Both Putnman and Singleton exchanged gunfire and hit each other.
According to a statement from the sheriff’s office, investigators do not believe anyone else was involved with the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
