The Hampton Bulldog baseball team hit the road on Monday for a baseball contest against the Holston, VA Cavaliers and came back to Hampton with a big win.
Behind a strong effort on the pitching rubber by Josh Whitson and a big day at the plate by Chance Point, the Bulldogs took a 5-3 win.
McKinley Kuhn got his Bulldog team rolling when he took the first pitch he saw in the first inning and singled driving in one ‘Dog run.
Holston went ahead in the bottom of the third by plating two runs to take the 2-1 lead. Hampton responded in the top of the fourth with two of their own to retake the lead, 3-2.
Point singled on a 2-2 count driving in a run in the inning.
While the offense was doing their work, Whitson was twirling a gem on the mound in relief. The right-hander allowed four hits and three runs over five innings. He struck out five and walked none.
Caleb Royston got the nod to start the game for Hampton and surrendered no runs on one hit over two innings while fanning two.
The Bulldog sticks collected 10 hits in the game led by Point and Jonathan Greenwell who collected two hits in the game.
Hampton’s only flaw of the game was in the field where they committed six errors.
