Sycamore Shoals State Park in Elizabethton is preparing for the 43rd year of “Liberty! The Saga of Sycamore Shoals.”
For the first time, performances will begin in June, with shows on June 3 and 4; June 10 and 11; June 23 and 25. Shows will start at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Doors open for attendees at 6:30 p.m., while the concession stand opens up at 7 p.m. and the pre-performance activities will begin at 7:45 p.m.
The performance will take place in the amphitheater in front of Fort Watauga inside the State Park at 1651 W. Elk Avenue in Elizabethton. The outdoor location near the actual sites of events being portrayed in the performance provides the audience with a historical connection.
Keith Young will be returning to direct the performance this season. Young is a retired professor at Northeast State Community College and is known for his many performances and contributions at Sycamore Shoals.
While visiting the state park for this year’s performances, attendees can make a visit to Carter’s Store, a venue named in honor of the original store which opened on the frontier in 1771, that contains a menu of delectable treats available to guests each evening.
Tickets for this year’s installment of “Liberty!” go on sale beginning April 1, and those seeking more information can visit https://www.friendsofsycamoreshoals.org/Liberty.
