The Cloudland Lady Highlanders and Johnson County Lady Longhorns could have cared less about playing defense on Monday in Mountain City as both teams were grinding the rust off the bats.
When the final out was made, the Lady ‘Landers managed to come out on top in the offensive showcase by taking a 20-13 victory.
Cloudland got things rolling in the first inning as they sent seven base runners across home plate to take a 7-0 lead. Needing some runs to stay in the game, the Lady ‘Horns scored three in the second inning to narrow the gap to 7-4 in favor of Cloudland.
The Lady Highlanders wasted no time in regrouping as they plated six more runs in the third to push the lead to 13-4. Cloudland countered with two more runs in the top of the fourth and once again the Lady ‘Landers increased their lead to 15-4.
Johnson County came storming back as they rolled the scoreboard five times to draw within six runs, 15-9. Cloudland went on to add one run in the fifth, three in the sixth, and one more in the seventh to take the win.
Karah Fields took the win from the circle collecting five strikeouts. Ella Benfield had five hits in the game for Cloudland while Ryan Turbyfill added four base knocks.
