Cyclone netters sweep East on courts

The Elizabethton Cyclone tennis team had an outstanding day on the courts Tuesday as the Cyclones swept the Sullivan East Patriots in both girls and boys action.
Mattie Davis playing in the #1 seed notched a tough 8-5 win over East’s Emma Hatcher to set the pace for the Lady Cyclones on the day. Maggie Rowland followed Davis up with a win at #2 seed by downing Lady Patriot opponent Jamie Moultrie 8-1.
The Lady Cyclones also picked up wins in the #5 and #6 seeds as Madelyn Outland took care of East’s Riley Dillard 8-3 while Maylie Stout picked up a victory over Morgan Rutherford 8-6.
East did pick up single wins in #3 and #4 seed play as Hannah Hodge downed Chloe Force 8-1 and Kamarie Derkins defeated Lady Cyclone Karie Merritt 8-5.
In doubles play, Davis and Rowland teamed up to defeat Hatcher and MacKenzie Cox 8-3 while Outland and Stout teamed up to defeat Derkins and Dillard 8-3. Force and Merritt found the going tough as they were defeated by East’s Moultrie and Hodge 8-4.
The Lady Cyclones claimed the match winning 6-3.
In boy’s play, Elizabethton took five of six contests in singles and all three doubles matches to win the match 8-1 over East.
Hudson Smith playing at #1 defeated Logan Murray 8-0. Anderson Hallman took the #2 seed match 8-3 over East’s Alex Hamilton.
The lone loss came at #3 seed as Elizabethton’s Nickle Wilson fell to Jack Ragan in a hard 8-5 defeat. Owen Slagle defeated Carmine Parsons in #4 seed action in a shutout 8-0 while Ashton Vest soundly defeated Braedon Smith 8-1.
Elijah Laney wrapped up singles by downing Patriot Ethan Tolley 8-1 in #6 seed play.
In doubles play, brothers Elijah and Hudson Smith teamed up to handle Hamilton and Ragan 8-1. Kaden Street and Carson Peters followed suit with a 8-2 win over East’s Murray and Smith.
Slagle and Laney teamed up in the final doubles match and took care of Parsons and Tolley taking their match 8-1.
