A single-vehicle accident at the intersection of Broad and Roan Street sent the driver of the vehicle to the hospital with unspecified injuries according to a patrolman with the Elizabethton Police Department.
According to witness accounts, the driver of a gray Hyundai Accent was driving westbound on Broad Street when the car crossed the two eastbound lanes and struck the traffic light pole.
The impact was so severe that parts of the car went across Roan Street and landed near an island where the traffic light control station is located while the passenger side front wheel was completely broken off the car.
Emergency responders including the EPD, Carter County Sheriff’s Office, Elizabethton Fire Department, and Carter County EMS responded to the accident that occurred around 4:15 p.m.
