The Unaka Lady Rangers picked up a key Watauga Valley Conference win on Thursday evening at Ronnie Hicks Field by defeating the visiting North Greene Lady Huskies.
Riding a five-run first inning outburst, the Lady Rangers turned that lead into a 7-1 victory.
The Lady Rangers received singles by Trinity Bowers and Kylie Blevins, an error on a ball put into play by Hailey Taylor, and a double by Jill Faust.
Unaka recorded eight hits in the contest led by a pair of hits from Sadie Shoun and Bowers. Alana Parsons, Blevins, Faust, and Taylor recorded the other hits.
Bowers picked up the victory from the pitching circle as the Unaka hurler allowed one run on two hits over seven innings while allowing only one walk striking out six Lady Huskies in the victory.
Cambell Gaby took the loss for the Lady Huskies. Gaby gave up seven runs on the eight hits, one walk, and four strikeouts.
Unaka will be on the road playing at Happy Valley on Tuesday.
