Tiffany Cosey, perhaps will be the first graduate of Hampton High School to have received her degree in Veterinary Science.
It’s been a long journey for Cosey, who graduated from Hampton in 2011, but through hard work, dedication and a good support system at home, she was able to go to college and graduated from the University of Tennessee with honors. She was then accepted into the UT Veterinary Medical Center to pursue her dream of being a veterinarian. She received her degree earlier this spring.
Cosey’s love of animals began at an early age, and she credits her mother, Lisa Woodby, and father, William Cosey, for being the driving forces in her life. Both parents served in the military while Cosey’s mother also worked as a nurse. “I grew up in medicine, and it was something that always interested me. And, I always loved animals,” she said.
Cosey is a single mother. She had her son, Elijah, while in high school. “It was rough,” Cosey said. “But I believe everything happens for a reason. I decided that I wanted to follow my dreams of becoming a veterinarian and finish school. My family and friends have been so supportive through everything.”
Casey now hopes to pursue her dream of being a veterinarian with Hammond Veterinarian Services in Hammond, La. But, first she must complete a preceptership in order to be licensed, and she will do that in Lousiana, also.
Casey said, “It may take awhile, but I’ve learned to never give up on your dreams. Don’t let rough patches in life stop you.”
