JCPD arrests 18-year-old in connection with two shootings

Johnson City Police Department on Sunday arrested 18-year-old Ja Mika Beard of Johnson City on charges of attempted murder in connection with two recent shooting incidents.

One of these incidents occurred on April 30 in the downtown area and the other occurred on May 4 in the Carver housing area. There were two people that suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds in both of the incidents.

According to the Johnson City Police Department, during the course of these investigations, Beard was developed as a suspect as a result of the evidence collected and witness statements obtained.

Beard was charged with attempted first-degree murder (three counts), attempted second-degree murder (three counts), possession of a firearm while in the commission of a dangerous felony, and two counts of reckless aggravated assault.

Beard was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where he is being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond for each incident.

Arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. on May 9 in Washington County General Sessions Court.
