Unresponsive man strikes vehicle in Johnson City Food City parking lot

A Johnson City man has been arrested on numerous drug charges after striking another vehicle in the parking lot of a Johnson City Food City.

According to Johnson City Police Department reports, Michael E. Grindstaff of Johnson City was arrested after striking the vehicle while unresponsive. Grindstaff was operating a white Ford Explorer when the crash happened at 4307 North Roan St.

The subsequent investigation concluded that Grindstaff was under the influence at the time of the crash.

After doing an inventory of Grindstaff’s vehicle prior to it being towed, officers located felony amounts of what was believed to be methamphetamine and heroin. Also, a small amount of marijuana and several items of drug paraphernalia were also located.

Grindstaff was charged with driving under the influence (first offense), driving on a suspended license (first offense), felony possession of methamphetamine (Schedule II), felony possession of heroin (Schedule I), and simple possession of marijuana (Schedule VI), and unlawful drug paraphernalia.

He was arrested and transported to the Washington County Detention Center where he is currently being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond. An arraignment is scheduled for Thursday, May 26, in Washington County General Sessions Court.
