ABINGDON, Va. — Company officials will soon be celebrating the completion of a major expansion/remodel at the Food City in Piney Flats, Tenn. The project resulted in the creation of 50 new area jobs.
“Our customers will find the same smiling faces, top quality products, exceptional customer service and competitive pricing they have come to expect from Food City, along with some exciting new services and conveniences,” says Steven C. Smith, Food City president and chief executive officer.
The project included the addition of 8,900 square feet of retail space, bringing the total square footage to over 52,800 square feet. The store now includes a Starbucks café, offering a wide assortment of blended hot and cold coffees and beverages. The food service departments have been expanded to make way for a larger hot food bar and café seating area, fireplace, fresh instore rolled sushi, smoker, pizza shop, soup bar, and additional sandwich, salad and bulk meat and cheese offerings. Over 60 items have been added to the produce department, along with a larger selection of juices, organics, packaged nuts, candies, and meatless veggies. The meat department includes added varieties of specialty meats/seafood and frozen meats. Over 2,400 new items have been added to the grocery department, including an expanded selection of beer/wine and dairy, as well as a peanut grinder offering fresh peanut butter and almond butter.
