Carter County employees are closer to receiving a $4,000 bonus after two committees of the County Commission approved the proposal on Monday.
The proposed bonus was approved by the Financial Management Committee on Monday morning and by the Budget Committee that evening.
If approved by the full commission, each employee considered an essential worker during the COVID-19 pandemic will receive a one-time bonus. According to county officials, 236 current employees and eight retired employees qualify.
The total cost to the county is $1,183 million, and funds will come from the federal American Rescue Plan funding.
The budget committee also unanimously recommended the commission approve $7.478 million for several water projects in the county. Funding for the project would come from the Tennessee Water Infrastructure Investment Program along with a match of $606,046 from the county’s ARP funding and $200,000 from the City of Elizabethton.
The full commission meets Monday, July 18, to consider both recommendations.
