Fewer than 2,700 Carter County voters took advantage of early voting for Thursday’s election.
The early, in-person voting period ended on Saturday. According to data from the election office, only 2,673 voters — 7.76 percent of the total registered voters — took advantage of the opportunity to cast ballots early.
By comparison, 4,618 — or 13.4% of registered voters — participated in early voting during the 2018 general election.
For the remainder of Carter County’s 34,461 registered voters who want to cast a ballot in the county general elections and statewide office primaries, polls will open at 8 a.m. Thursday and close at 8 p.m.
In addition to primaries for state offices such as governor, House of Representatives and Senate, the ballot includes the general election candidates for Carter County offices. Contested races include mayor, sheriff, several commission seats and more.
