A man was arrested and charged with attempted murder Thursday morning after a woman was shot and stabbed in her home late Wednesday night.
Lanny Allen Markland, 40, was arrested at 5:30 a.m. Thursday and is charged with second-degree attempted murder, interfering with an emergency call, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a firearm in a dangerous felony.
Carter County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Markland just six hours after receiving the initial call of a shooting and stabbing incident on Blue Springs Road just before midnight on Wednesday.
According to information released by the sheriff’s department, deputies found Dana Wilson Crowe, 45, “sitting just inside the rear door” of a residence at 1459 Blue Springs Road, covered in blood and holding the left side of her head and neck.
She told officers she had been shot and stabbed, but initially refused to identify the attacker. “She said she could not tell me because they said they would come back to kill her and the kids,” the deputy’s report reads.
However, while being loaded onto the gurney, “Dana admitted to Deputy Tyler Holsclaw that the person who shot and stabbed her was Lanny Markland.”
Lawrence Lee, landlord, said he was in bed and heard two vehicles leaving the residence. He identified one as belonging to Markland, based on the sound. “He said that he then heard Dana beating on his front door and she was saying that she had been shot and stabbed.”
