A naked, unattended toddler found playing alongside a state highway led to the arrest of a Jonesborough woman on charges of child abuse and neglect.
Washington County Sheriff Keith Sexton said deputies received a call on Monday about an unattended child playing alongside Old State Route 34. When they arrived, deputies found a 1-year-old child nude and near a bridge. After securing the child and making sure he was unharmed, deputies went to the nearest residence and tried to make contact with a parent or guardian.
“Deputies attempted multiple times to make contact with someone at the residence but were unsuccessful,” Sexton said in a release. “Deputies then entered the home through an open door and found (Robin) Mcinturff. She claimed to be the child’s grandmother, but would not provide accurate information for the child’s parents.”
Mcinturff, 44, was arrested and released on $1,000 bond. The boy was placed into custody with the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services.
