A dozen volunteers walked Milligan Highway on Saturday and removed 15 bags of trash as part of the Keep Carter County Beautiful Cleanup efforts.
In addition to the trash, volunteers cleaned up five tires (one on a rim), a mattress, plywood and Styrofoam.
In a statement about the cleanup, KCCB said, “It looked like the litterers were hard at work over the last few months. Those littering should know that new Tennessee laws went into effect July 1, 2022. The new law raised the fine for littering from $50 to $500. Keep littering and you will eventually have to pay.”
In addition, anyone who turns in evidence that leads to a conviction for littering could earn $50. “So, if you would like to earn $50 keep your cameras ready,” the statement reads.
KCCB thanked the volunteers who participated. “Thank you from all of Carter County for your dedication and support. Next year we are hoping to get more of the community involved and put an end to this issue.”
