KINGSPORT – The Hampton Bulldogs fell to the 2022 State Champions Dobyns-Bennett Indians in early basketball action on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs traveled to Kingsport on Tuesday night to take on Dobyns-Bennett at John Sevier Middle School, falling to the Indians 85-76. The game saw a shootout between Cadon Buckles of the Bulldogs with 40 points and Dante Oliver of the Indians with 47 points.
Hampton, down 24-14 at the end of the first quarter, would battle back to get within two by halftime, 41-39. The Bulldogs would take the lead at the end of the third quarter, 59-58. Hampton would hold its final lead with over two minutes remaining in the game when the Indians pulled away for the win. Rounding out the scoring for Hampton were Michael Anspaugh, 11 points, followed by Hayden Campbell, 9; Geno Carrico, 5; Dalton Nave, 5; Ty McElyea, 4; and Dylan Trivett, 2.
Bulldogs start the season 0-1 and will seek their first win of the season on Saturday when they host Jellico.
Game time is at 3 pm.
