The Elizabethton Chamber of Commerce Foundation, in collaboration with Elizabethton Parks and Recreation, Silver Angels of Tennessee – Carter, LLC, and the Elizabethton Senior Center, is gearing up to host a vital community workshop titled “Prepare for Care: An Introduction to Generational Households and Caring for Aging Parents.”
Scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the workshop aims to provide valuable insights into the complexities of caring for aging parents and managing generational households. This free event will feature a panel of experts covering a range of essential topics, including conservatorship, wills, hospice and in-home care, and navigating insurance.
Kelly Kitchens, Elizabethton Parks and Recreation’s Programming & Special Events Coordinator, expressed the significance of their partnership in offering this workshop, stating, “We believe that learning should be coupled with recreation, and we’re excited to enrich the program by hosting a Party in the Park just steps outside the Senior Citizen Center at Walter Curtis Park.”
The workshop will take place at the Elizabethton Senior Center at 428 E. G Street in Elizabethton. Attendees and their families can expect an educational seminar and a vibrant community gathering featuring a free hotdog lunch and live entertainment. Tennessee Backroads will provide musical entertainment, enhancing the overall experience.
Joy McCray, Executive Director of Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the importance of community collaboration, stating, “We are so fortunate to have wonderful community partners in this project with City of Elizabethton Parks and Recreation, Elizabethton Senior Citizens Center, and our friends at Silver Angels to host this event.”
Jaclyn Vest, Silver Angels Branch Operations Manager, shared the motivation behind their involvement in the event. “When it comes to caring for aging loved ones, or preparing for your own future, most people don’t know where to start when it comes to healthcare. That was the catalyst for the creation of this event. We wanted to put together a panel of experts across different levels of care that could educate the community and help alleviate some ‘unknowns’ from these decisions,” Vest explained.
“Prepare for Care” promises to be an invaluable resource for the community, offering guidance and insights into the complexities of caring for aging parents and managing generational households. This collaborative effort reflects a shared commitment to community engagement and overall well-being.
