JOHNSON CITY – Assistant City Manager Randy Trivette announced on Friday that Jason Miles is set to take the reins as the new Public Works director for the City of Johnson City. With over 25 years of extensive experience, Miles is poised to lead the department’s five vital divisions, which encompass engineering, solid waste, stormwater, streets, and traffic.
“We are excited to welcome Jason, given his impressive background in engineering, project management, and administration. We believe he is well-equipped to guide the Public Works department as our city experiences significant growth,” stated Trivette. “His prior roles are closely aligned with the department’s demands, and he inherits an exceptional team of professionals who will support him as he acclimates to the new position and undertakes current and future Public Works projects.”
In his previous role as assistant public services director in Fayetteville, N.C., Miles held responsibility for an array of tasks, including planning, budgeting, design, permitting, and construction administration for various city projects, such as capital improvements, FEMA initiatives, grant-funded endeavors, and more.
Miles outlined his initial priorities, stating, “I aim to rapidly familiarize myself with departmental operations and ongoing City projects. Equally essential is getting to know our dedicated team members and appreciating their pivotal roles in advancing the City.”
Among his noteworthy accomplishments, Miles highlighted his civil engineering contributions to a $40 million recycling facility, his project management involvement in an $83 million harbor expansion, and his role in the design and construction of projects for the Richmond International Airport expansion, which amounted to a staggering $500 million.
Expressing his enthusiasm about joining the Johnson City team, Miles remarked, “I am genuinely thrilled to become a part of the Johnson City community. This opportunity allows me to return to this beautiful region, and I am deeply honored to have been chosen to serve its residents. My wife, Kristy, and I eagerly anticipate settling down and dedicating ourselves to the betterment of Johnson City. The warm welcome I’ve already received from so many reflects the extraordinary character of this special place that I am fortunate to call home.”
Miles holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in engineering from the University of Arkansas.
The City of Johnson City welcomes Jason Miles with open arms, eager to harness his extensive expertise as they navigate future projects and the city’s continued development.
