Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Eastern Tennessee

The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for several counties in East Tennessee, including Washington County, northeastern Greene County, northern Unicoi County, and central Carter County. The warning is in effect until 5:30 PM EDT.
At 4:35 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Tusculum, or near Greeneville, moving east at a rapid 40 miles per hour. This storm system poses a significant hazard, with potential for 60 MPH wind gusts and quarter-sized hail. Radar data indicates the severity of this storm.
Anticipated impacts from this severe thunderstorm include hail damage to vehicles and the potential for wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Localities likely to be affected include Johnson City, Greeneville, Elizabethton, Erwin, Jonesborough, Tusculum, Banner Hill, Central, Midway, and Pine Crest.
Motorists should exercise caution on Interstate 26 in Tennessee between mile markers 18 and 42 and on Interstate 81 in Tennessee between mile markers 36 and 41.
Residents and travelers in the affected areas are strongly advised to seek shelter indoors immediately and stay away from windows. Additionally, due to the risk of lightning and flash flooding, precautions should be taken to ensure safety.
