As the recruitment deadline of October 20, 2023, approaches, tnAchieves is in need of 4,300 volunteer mentors to meet the demand of local students in Northeast Tennessee. Several counties in the region require additional mentors, including Carter County (41 mentors needed), Greene County (62 mentors needed), Hancock County (three mentors needed), Hawkins County (36 mentors needed), Johnson County (13 mentors needed), Sullivan County (111 mentors needed), and Washington County (58 mentors needed).

The time commitment for mentors is minimal, requiring only about one hour per month, and no extensive background in the college application process is necessary. Mentors will play a vital role in guiding and encouraging local students as they transition from high school to post-secondary institutions. tnAchieves offers resources, training, and support to ensure both students and mentors are equipped for success.

Tyler Ford, Senior Director of Mentors at tnAchieves, emphasized the significance of meeting the mentor recruitment goal. Ford stated, “Meeting this goal is critical to the success of local high school seniors. When this goal is met, we ensure that each TN Promise student has local support and guidance as they navigate the college-going process. For many students, the simple act of encouragement during this transition makes a lasting impact.”

All volunteers receive training and ongoing support from the tnAchieves team. Mentors will have the opportunity to meet their assigned students in December or January at the students’ respective high schools, and they can choose the county and high school where they prefer to serve.

tnAchieves is a privately funded scholarship and mentoring program committed to providing every Tennessee student with the opportunity to earn a post-secondary degree. For inquiries about the tnAchieves mentoring program, please contact Tyler Ford at (309) 945-3446 or tyler@tnAchieves.org.
