Over the weekend, Elizabethton police officers apprehended several individuals involved in public intoxication and related offenses.

Kenneth Shawn Thompson was taken into custody during the Covered Bridge Days Celebration after officers discovered him highly intoxicated. Thompson was unable to stand or walk, and his breath revealed the presence of alcohol. An unopened bottle of Travelers Club Liquor was found in his pocket. Due to his severe intoxication, field sobriety tests were administered, and Thompson was arrested for public intoxication.

Chanelle Elise Staats was initially reported as an intoxicated individual who refused to arrange a safe ride home from Riverside Taphouse. Upon encountering her white Toyota 4Runner, officers observed signs of intoxication, including the smell of alcohol and her glassy, bloodshot eyes. Staats performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for stop sign violation and driving under the influence (first offense). She also refused a blood sample, leading to a charge of violating implied consent.

Edward Wayne Guinn was arrested after he was spotted riding a bicycle without lights, proceeding in the wrong lanes, and exhibiting an unsteady gait and slurred speech, indicative of public intoxication. Guinn, who admitted to consuming alcohol, was taken into custody for his own safety and that of others.

Michael Joe Woodby was arrested after being discovered highly intoxicated in the mulch in Arby’s parking lot. He was observed drinking 100-proof vodka and subsequently arrested for public intoxication.

Michael Wayne Ledford was found outside Gas ‘N Go exhibiting erratic behavior and refusing to complete standardized field sobriety tests. He was taken into custody for public intoxication and was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a glass smoking pipe with residue and uncapped needles were discovered during a search.

All individuals were transported to the Carter County Detention Center without further incident.
