Shannon Burchett announces candidacy for Carter County Road Superintendent

Shannon Burchett proudly declares his Republican candidacy for the position of Carter County Road Superintendent in the upcoming 2024 General Election, promising a wealth of experience and unwavering commitment to his community.

With over 30 years of experience, Burchett has nurtured a deep connection with Carter County. His journey began as a truck driver and equipment operator at the highway department in May 1993, working under the guidance of Superintendent Roy Taylor. Over the years, he climbed the ranks, serving as Supervisor and eventually assuming the role of Assistant Road Superintendent when Jack Perkins held the position until retirement in 2014. He continued to expand his knowledge under three different superintendents.

Burchett’s most recent role was Assistant to Roger Colbaugh, who retired in May of this year. His dedication to Carter County led to his appointment as the Road Superintendent by the Carter County Commission, a role he will hold until the next General Election in August 2024.

Born and raised in Carter County, Burchett’s roots run deep. He and his wife, Debbie, are active members of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church, and they are proud parents of two daughters, Katie (Scott) Odom and Maggie Burchett. In his leisure time, Burchett enjoys hunting, fishing, and cherishing moments with his family and friends.

With an array of goals in mind, Burchett aims to enhance the community’s safety by focusing on road improvements, encompassing not only the road surface but also the shoulders and ditches. Fiscal responsibility is a top priority for him, as he vows to use taxpayer funds wisely while maintaining a balanced budget.

Burchett is committed to prioritizing the safety of his dedicated crew, ensuring that they return home to their families at the end of each day. He promises prompt and respectful responses to all concerns.

In his bid for the role of Carter County Road Superintendent, Burchett guarantees to provide 110% effort daily. His primary goal is to be the best road superintendent possible, utilizing allocated tax dollars to create the finest road system for Carter County.
