Family Night at Fender’s Farm

Family night is coming up on Wednesday, Oct. 25, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Fender’s Farm, located at 254 Highway 107, Jonesborough.

Activities will include a corn maze, jumping pillow, animal barn, wagon rides, tube and mega slides, pig races, crow konk, low rope courses, a mini zip line, pirate ship playground, and pumpkin patch (pick a pumpkin to purchase).

The cost is $5 per person pre-registered through Christ Fellowship. Children under three are free.

 

Haunted Half Marathon and Relay

The 15th Annual Half Marathon and Relays will be held downtown Kingsport on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 a.m. 

The event will also include a Monster Mile.

 

Holiday Market at Valley Forge School

A holiday market will be held at Valley Forge School on Nov. 3 and 4. The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The market will feature local vendors, handmade crafts, and more.

Free admission and door prizes. 

 

Trunk or Treat at CC Sheriff’s Dept.

Trunk or Treat will be held at the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, 900 E. Elk Ave., on Tuesday, October 31. 

The time is from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be candy, prizes, and more.

 

Shop With A Cop Fishing Tournament

The Carter County Sheriff’s Department will sponsor a Shop With A Cop Fishing Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Boone Lake, TVA Ramp at Minga Road.

The entry fee is $60. Registration is from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m.; fishing begins at 8 a.m., and weigh-in is at 3 p.m.

First place prize is $ 1,000; second place is $500; and third place is $250. There will be a $125 prize for big largemouth and smallmouth bass.

All proceeds will go to benefit the Carter County Sheriff’s Dept. Shop With A Cop event.

 

Scary Stories at Fort Watauga

Strange things happen around Halloween, especially around an old fort by the river.

Scary stories at Fort Watauga will be told on Thursday, October 26, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area.

It will be an evening of family friendly stories, songs, and tales that are sure to send a shiver down your spine and tickle your funny bone.

Be sure to bring a chair and dress warmly to ward off the chill.

Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area is located at 1651 W. Elk Ave.

Bird Walks at Sycamore Shoals State Park

Another round of fall bird walks is coming up Oct. 26 at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area. The time is 8 to 10 a.m.

It’s a great time to meet other birders and naturalists for a morning of birding during the migratory season.

 

Peg Leg Mine GeoVenture at RM State Park

Park Ranger Phil Hyler will lead a geology adventure hope to the Peg Leg Iron Mine on Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Roan Mountain State Park. The adventure will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, and those wishing to participate are asked to meet at the park visitor center. 

Participants will explore the 1800s era iron mile before opening up their very own mining spoils.

The hike is 11 miles long and rated moderate difficulty. Participants will explore the history and geology of the park.

Registration is $10 per individual. Be sure to wear good hiking clothes and boots and prepare for cool weather.
