The Boys and Girls Club of Elizabethton/Carter County hosted its annual Storybook Pumpkin Contest in conjunction with an open house and a special Halloween story time presented by Brenda Merritt. The event was sponsored by Carter County Bank.
Contest winners included Amelia Turbyfill, first place for her Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban entry; Hendrix Turbyfill was second with his pumpkin illustrating Smithsonian Kids – World of Dinos; and Mason Pierce took third with his depiction of The Adventures of Captain Underpants.
Special awards were given for a mother/daughter collaboration by Whitley Manning and April Chandler, for their take on Alice and Wonderland; Edith Canner won the adult/staff division with her pumpkin(s) illustrating The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
