The Lady Cyclones whittled away an 11-point 3rd-period deficit, but in the end, came up just short in their opening game of the Cherokee Invitational held at Cherokee, NC, at the Harrah’s Resort. Down 44-33, Michelle Shields hit a couple of big 3-pointers to spark the run in the 4th period against Providence Day. One of the biggest discrepancies came at the free-throw line, as the Lady Chargers from Charlotte, North Carolina, had 17 opportunities compared to the Lady Cyclones’ nine attempts.

Shields led the way with 12 points, while Kaelyn Nave added 10. Both Marlee Mathena and Kali Shepherd chipped in 8 points. The Lady Cyclones will next play RJ Reynolds High School, hailing from Winston-Salem, NC, at 6:30 today.
