Pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle in Carter County

Vicky Yelton Hughes, 58, of Tennessee, tragically lost her life after being struck by a 2005 HONDA CR-V on U.S. 19E yesterday morning, January 24, 2024, at approximately 10:32 a.m.
According to authorities, the 2005 HONDA CR-V departed from its lane of travel on U.S. 19E near Clay Little Road and collided with Hughes, who was on the right shoulder at the time. The impact resulted in fatal injuries to Hughes. The case is currently under investigation, and officials are referring it to the District Attorney’s office for further examination.
The driver of the 2005 HONDA CR-V is identified as Dayton Paul Souder, 83, also from Tennessee. Souder was wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident and sustained no injuries. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
